Meet the Staff

Bridget Hickman, DMV

Dr. Hickman is originally from rural Slocomb, Alabama, where she grew up surrounded by a plethora of animals.  She graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006.    Her first two years post-graduation were spent working in both a general small animal practice and an emergency veterinary practice in the gulf coast of Florida.  In 2008, Dr. Hickman, her husband, and two dogs moved to Roanoke while her husband pursued a master’s degree at Virginia Tech. She fell in love with the people, animals, and mountains of Roanoke and decided to put down roots.

After arriving in Roanoke, Dr. Hickman worked for five years at a daytime small animal practice in the valley.  She left day practice and spent one year serving as Assistant Professor of Veterinary Technology at Blue Ridge Community College.  During this time, she also received her CCRP (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner) title from the University of Tennessee.  Dr. Hickman joined the staff at EVS in the summer of 2015.   Here, she feels fortunate to be able to provide continuous care to her emergency patients in a facility where she has the support of like-minded colleagues and all the tools to deliver modern, quality care in critical situations.   Her veterinary interests are: ultrasound, rehabilitation, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery. When she is not working, Dr. Hickman enjoys vegetable gardening, traveling to National Parks, and hiking.  Dr. Hickman welcomed her first son in November of 2016.
